“Very preterm” children need careful screening in kindergarten

A new study from the University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine and reported in Reuters makes a strong argument for very careful monitoring of academic performance of very premature children entering kindergarten to identify and intervene early in learning problems.  Ideally, say the authors, identification would be much earlier than school entry.
