Youth suicide

Several articles of interest have appeared recently.  One, from the University of Washington, reported in UPI , indicates that the initial attempts at suicide begin much earlier than usual, with aged 12 being a usual time.  Repeated attempters start much earlier, and the authors call for better education and vigilance to depression in elementary school.  As well, in this morning’s Globe and Mail , reports of Canadian provincial attempts to deal with the rising awareness of teen suicide and the link to bullying are detailed.  Unfortunately, expulsion is one consequence being suggested.  One wonders how we teach the students who aren’t in school with us, and how this consequence could possibly curb cyber-bullying!
