What’s behind the ADHD symptoms?

A post in today’s Boston Globe which referenced Claudia Gold’s blog Child in Mind really hits home for school psychologists.  The author urges pediatricians to look for the “why” of those ADHD symptoms instead of medicating the symptoms that appear on the surface.  Symptom management doesn’t necessarily equate to symptom understanding, and the author advocates for a good family history.  It certainly makes sense, and we should be urging the collection of that information, not just checklists!
