Canadian suicide rates for young girls increasing

An article in the Vancouver Sun presents the results of a report in this week’s issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal by researchers from the Public Health Agency of Canada.  While overall suicide rates among teens seem to have stabilized or dropped somewhat, when data were broken down by age and sex, it was found that young girls are killing themselves more often than previously, mostly by suffocation or strangulation.  A worrisome trend, to be sure.
