New DSM-5 definition of “MR” causing problems for advocacy/support groups

As reported in the Disability Scoop from ASCD, the proposed new definition of “mental retardation” as “intellectual developmental disorder” in favour of the preferred “intellectual disability” is causing a great deal of debate.  At stake are not only the nature of the disability but also how it is diagnosed and what the long-term implications of the diagnosis might be.  This certainly has implications for school psychologists.
