Self-harming behaviour seen in young children

A new study, published in Pediatrics and reported in WebMD , has found that self-injurious behaviour is problematic in children as young as grade 2 & 3.  The author suggests self-harm is a red flag for anxiety and/or depression in kids, and recommends strategies for teaching coping skills.
