Spanking linked to later psychological problems

A new study from U. Manitoba, published in Pediatrics and  reported in MedpageToday suggests that even non-violent discipline of children can put them at risk for later development of mood disorders and anxiety disorders.   The findings “provide evidence that harsh physical punishment independent of child maltreatment is related to mental disorders,” states the author.  The message seems to be, discipline your child with love and support, not threats and intimidation.
