Depression not a key factor in academic failure in teens

A new study from the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, reported in EurekAlert, has found that depression alone is not a factor in academic failure for teens, but rather the associated behavioral issues, such as substance abuse, delinquency, and attentional problems, are the real culprits.  Focusing on those collateral problems rather than the depression is suggested as the key to intervention.
