ADHD symptoms persist with or without treatment

In a puzzling longitudinal study from Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, published today in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and reported in EurekAlert, preschoolers diagnosed with ADHD were as likely to have their symptoms remain as severe into school years regardless of whether or not they were medicated.  There are questions about medication appropriateness and fidelity, however it would appear that there’s more to dealing with ADHD symptoms than meds.  Maybe psycho-education for both parents and child would be a better route to take?  What do you think?
