Autistic kids and psychotropic meds

A new study published in Pediatrics and reported in disabilityscoop indicates that nearly two-thirds of kids diagnosed with Autism in the US are taking at least one psychotropic medication.  A scary phenomenon, especially given that there is little support to indicate that the meds are helpful or even appropriate treatment!  One wonders if the situation in Canada is any different?
