How stories influence children’s moral behaviours

A new study from researchers at the  University of Toronto and McGill, published in Psychological Science and reported in EurekAlert, looked at the influence on stories teaching morals, in this case honesty, and whether positive or negative consequences of telling the truth in the story sharped the children’s subsequent behaviour.  Not surprisingly, focusing on the positive effects of telling the truth were more influential than stories teaching the downside of lying.
