How nurture impacts nature

A new study from the University of Rochester, reported in EurekAlert, looked at the impact of cortisol level on cognitive development in young children.  Too much or too little cortisol, the stress hormone, negatively impacted cognitive functioning, while “the right amount” stimulated cognitive functioning.  And the effects seem to last into school years.  The case is made for early intervention in highly stressed families.
